Patrick Lamb - Soul Of A Free Man

A native of Portland, Oregon, Patrick Lamb has a truly enviable pedigree as a saxophonist and vocalist. Having toured with the Grammy winning Jazz vocalist,Diane Schuur, the legendary Bobby Caldwell and superb Gino Vannelli and having been awarded three Muddy awards in different years by voting members of the Northwest music community and the Cascade Blues Association, Patrick has been solidly and consistently recognized by his peers and community as a world class talent. This album will, if you are not already acquainted, introduce you to this talent. Patrick has a foundation in the blues, and this CD displays a rich mix of blues, soul, jazz and a hint of rock. If you love, as I do, the recent “Do It For Love” album from Hall & Oates then you will love this. Again, fans of Robben Ford's late 90s work for Verve will appreciate this. My musical taste is quite broad and so this CD slots in nicely in all areas I love.

If the recent Allstars Collective was your bag then this set will definitely be for you. The vocals are exceptionally soulful in the best blue-eyed sense and all the backings on here consist of real instruments. I am sure you will appreciate the superb “I Remember”, the southern Booker T Jones / MGs-ish “You Are My Everything”and gentle, acoustic soul of “We Can Make It”. This song has a musical element of the Isley's mid-70s ballads to it, and for that alone the track is a winner. The sax-laden “It's Love” along with the organ is similar to the work on the excellent JK album from 1998, and Patrick's suave vocals are nothing short of excellent. “You Have Made Me So Very Happy” would easily attract fans of the Average White Band among others. This brassy number is another favourite of mine from this CD. The set made its début in Japan in 2006 but is now available in the US. Please do not overlook this album – I think that the man is a great talent and can turn his talents to any genre he wishes. He satisfies me on various fronts so you'll find no complaints from me!
